My Gear

Below is a list of the gear that I currently use:

Swim Gear

Speedo Biofuse Finger Paddles
Speedo Biofuse Fin Training Fin
Speedo Men’s Elite Pullkick
Zone3 – Aquaventure Goggles Revo – one piece of advice here, don’t buy a cheap pair like i did first time round, a waste of a tenner! These fit much better, don’t fog unless i remove them and sad as I am I bought the matching tinted pair for outdoor use.
Speedo Men’s Endurance Jammer – surely the only choice, Speedos! I only had beach attire so needed to buy something and figured I may as well get the right thing, despite not feeling the most comfortable strutting around in them!
Zone3 Vision Wetsuit – Purchased recently in preparation for my first open water event, I tried on pretty much everything going and this fitted me the best. Sadly it’s not in the colour scheme…. one thing of note, pay attention to sizing, I needed an ‘SM’ size, which stands for Small Medium. If i’d have gone off the guide I’d have got a medium as I am over the size suggestions for the SM!

Bike Gear

Trek Madone 2.1 (2014) – This was my first big buy and chosen after a test of a number of bikes. It seemed to ‘fit’ me perfectly out of the box and bought during an end of season sale so was not too scary on the price. Eventually I am sure i’ll get a proper Triathlon bike, but I was advised against one as my only bike.
Vision T30 wheels in a nice stealthy black finish, coupled with some Schwalbe One 700x25c tyres.
Selle SMP Dynamic saddle.
Kask 50nta  – I read some fantastic reviews of the Mojito, but this got as good if not better reviews for the less money. Most importantly it was an epic Christmas present off my good wife.
Garmin Edge 1000 Performance Bundle  – possibly a little OTT for a beginner but i’m a fairly keen mountain biker too and bought this for the navigation elements as much as anything else. It came with….
Garmin Bike Speed and Cadence Sensor for my triathlon bike. Eventually I hope to replace these with some sort of power meter but they’re a little price-high for me at the moment.
CAMELBAK Podium Chill Drinks Bottle – everyone needs a drink from time to time, these were cheap, a decent size and claim to keep my drink cool too. I keep them in…
Elite Custom Race water bottle cage – if they’re good enough for Team Sky, they’re good enough for me!
Sugoi Men’s Evolution Team Jersey – For training I wear Sugoi. I’ve been using them for running for a while and have been impressed with the fit.
Sugoi Men’s RS Pro Bib Short – right colours, good fit – perfect!
Zoot Ultra Tri Suit
Northwave Tri-Sonic shoes – go half a size larger than your normal shoes with these to free up the toe a little.
Look KEO 2 Max Pedal – no particular reason for these other than some recommendations and the fact they were a lot cheaper and lighter than the supposed Shimano rival models.
Topeak Aero Wedge Pack Saddle Bag – Medium – I needed something to keep a phone, spare tube and a….
Crank Brothers Multi-19 Tool – just in case. It’s very lightweight and should fix anything. Hopefully.

Run Gear

Brooks Mens Pureflow 3 – I’ve been a long time Brooks fan, well I say long time, I jumped ship from a very long association with Asics. These are very light and have a great drive off the forefoot strike.
Brooks Men’s Ghost 5 Trainer – these are the training trainers, the Flow’s being used for race day.
Brooks Ghost 8 – the newest version of my much loved Ghost 5’s….
Brooks PureConnect 4 – Race Day shoes… calf killers too!
Balega Hidden Comfort – comfiest socks i’ve owned, seem to keep my feet nice and dry and thus far blister free!
Nathan Lock Laces – to save those valuable seconds in transition.
I run in a range of Brooks gear too, high visibility stuff from their Infinity Range for at night but mostly whatever i grab from the drawer as its full of their stuff!
Garmin Forerunner 920xt GPS Triathlon Watch with HRM – this builds on the Forerunner 910xt and adds many of the features of the 620 I had before. It’s a bit bulkier but I’m finding the swimming data invaluable! See my info on it.
2xu Recovery Compression Socks – an essential post run healer. That and an ice bath!

Misc

Bike Fit: Optimise your bike position for high performance and injury avoidance – the title should suggest why I bought this, but the other reason was that everywhere I keep reading the importance of a good bike fit. I haven’t ventured on to the bike yet due to the various injuries so this is reference only.
2014 Uvex Sportstyle 103 Glasses – cheaper than Oakleys, changeable lenses, right colour scheme!
